Here are 10 Kindergarten Graduation Activities and ways to celebrate the end of the year.

10 Kindergarten Graduation Activities

Now, those who host preschool graduation or first-grade end-of-the-year planners, I hope you can snag and use some of these kindergarten graduation ideas for your special day as well. And most importantly, please don’t think this has to be a formal ceremony. Simple ideas can make a kindergarten graduation day a sweet way to end a great year.

1. **Personalized Superlative Certificates**

Presenting superlative certificates is a classic way to honor each child’s achievements. You can customize these with the child’s name, the date, and a heartfelt message or quote. Adding decorative elements like gold seals or stickers can make the certificates more special. We highly recommend choosing to honor the students for who they are instead of relying on academic awards. An example is giving out a Class Cheerleader award instead of a Math Fact Winner award. Additionally, remember to be kind and choose awards that you would like your own child to get and that conveys positive messages for the entire class.

2. **Cap and Gown Ceremony**

Organize a cap and gown ceremony to give children a sense of accomplishment. Miniature caps and gowns can be purchased online, or you can create DIY versions with craft supplies. This attire not only makes for adorable photos but also enhances the formal feel of the ceremony. Including a tassel for each cap that students can move from one side to the other adds a traditional graduation touch.

Now, to be able to order caps may not be in the budget for your kindergarten graduation ceremony. We have other great ideas. Some teachers have ONE on hand that they use year after year to create their own cap and gown pictures. Some schools purchase just a set of hats like this to use.

Our school does not do the traditional cap and gown ceremony, but we do talk to the photography company that does fall and spring school pictures. We arrange a date for cap and gown pictures that families can purchase. Even if families do not purchase these pictures, we get a precious Kindergarten Completion certificate with their image on it for each child to keep free of charge.

3. **Memory Books**

Create memory books throughout the school year with your students. Include drawings, photos, and quotes from the children about their favorite kindergarten memories. Presenting these books on graduation day provides students with a keepsake that captures their experiences and growth. This activity also encourages children to reflect on their learning journey. It is a great way to connect with families beyond this year as they cherish this item for years to come. Plus, it is a personal touch that little kindergarteners love to look back on even has they are older students.
You can see how we make these memory books for our students here.

4. **Student Performances**

Incorporate a short performance by the students, such as singing a song, reciting a poem, or performing a skit. Popular songs for kindergarten graduation include “Kindergarten Here We Come” and “The Kindergarten Song.” These performances allow students to showcase their talents and provide entertainment for families. In the past, my school has done performances called E-I-E-I-Oops, How Does Your Garden Grow?, and Bugz! You can research those if you need guidance. We have more recently done performances that are in the school’s purchased music book called GLOW!. Check out your school’s materials before you buy anything.

5. **Photo Slideshows**

Compile a slideshow of photos taken throughout the school year, including images from field trips, classroom activities, and special events. A visual recap set to music can be a heartwarming way to reflect on the year and celebrate the students’ journey. This slideshow can be a highlight of the ceremony.

This year I ventured out to use Canva for a very simple slideshow. I love how clean and put-together Canva makes things look. I like that it connects to Google for my photos. Additionally, it is easy to make at home and display at school via their website. Lastly, you can download it and play it on a repeating loop for any graduation activities.

I will mention that if you load too many images, the site won’t like it and was acting up for me. I had to slime down the images to make it work. I ended up using just the whole class pictures of the entire class versus individual student images.

6. **Decorative Themes**

Choose a fun theme for the graduation ceremony, such as “Under the Sea,” “Safari Adventure,” or “Outer Space.” Decorate the venue with themed decorations and encourage students to wear costumes or accessories that match the theme. This adds excitement and visual appeal to the event. Some teachers lay down red bulletin board paper to create a red carpet theme event for every little kindergarten graduate to walk down.

I love to go to our local Dollar Tree and grab cheap graduation-themed items from there using our local school colors. They always have black, gold, silver, and then local high school color items on hand. And a little goes a long way for this party theme. You can also use this special occasion to set up a photo booth background for all those pictures. We use school supplies and construction paper whenever possible. We also like to use the same one year after year to save time. Whenever we can reuse a photo backdrop for a past year, I call that a big deal and it helps with the hard work we put into the details.

7. **Graduation Songs**

Playing graduation-themed songs adds to the festive atmosphere for these special moments for kindergarten students. Songs like “This Little Light of Mine” and “We’ve Only Just Begun” by The Carpenters are popular choices. Creating a custom playlist with songs meaningful to your students enhances the emotional impact of the ceremony. I am also a big fan of the song “Upside Down” by Jack Johnson. They are great additions to this big day for the little graduate. Having a playlist for the graduation ceremonies could be a big high and help with the planning process year after year.

8. **Graduation Craft Stations**

Set up craft stations where children can create graduation-themed crafts, such as decorating their graduation caps, making friendship bracelets, or crafting memory frames. These activities keep students engaged and provide additional keepsakes for them to take home. This is another one of many fun ways to wrap up the end of the school year with your little learners and their family members.

You may want to save this specific idea for the last day of school or another special time for this fun activity. You know your families and time constraints better than anyone.

9. **Awards**

Our school gives out school awards for every classroom. Since every student gets a certificate of completion for the year, we honor their awards with specialized themed stickers for awards. Since I have a tough time remembering what each sticker represents, I make a Google Doc with the image of the sticker award, and the description of the award. Each student supporter gets a copy of this to keep with their certificate of completion for the year to help with themes and memorable moments for years to come.

10. **Graduation Gift**

Because my students walk away with a lot of papers and materials, I like to provide them with a small gift. I purchased one sand bucket for each learner and put all their end-of-the-year items inside it. When they leave, they get their certificate of completion, scrapbook, summer packet, awards, and everything else in the bucket to take home. Think of this as a useful party favor that becomes the perfect present that helps get all those papers home in a better way.

By incorporating these kindergarten graduation activities into your activities, you can create a memorable and meaningful celebration that honors your students’ achievements and prepares them for the next exciting chapter in their educational journey. Congratulations to all the graduating kindergarteners and the dedicated teachers who have guided them!
