Wat is een Apple Store?

Toekomstige Apple Stores in Nederland

Er zijn op dit moment geen nieuwe locaties voor de Apple Stores bekend. Ook zijn er geen bouwprojecten die erop wijzen dat er binnenkort een Apple Store komt. Zoals je uit de jaartallen hieronder kunt afleiden heeft Apple in 2012-2014 een drietal Apple Stores geopend en het lijkt erop dat daarmee het project voor Apple is afgerond. Ook in andere Europese landen zijn in de periode rond 2012-2013 veel Apple Stores geopend zoals in Barcelona, Rome, Lyon, Turijn en Berlijn. Daarna volgden nog mondjesmaat winkels op heel. bijzondere locaties, zoals in historische gebouwen (waarbij het verkrijgen van de vergunningen waarschijnlijk langer in beslag nam).

Hoewel inwoners buiten de Randstad graag zouden zien dat er ook Apple Stores in Groningen, Zwolle, Enschede en Eindhoven zouden komen, denken we dat de kans hierop klein is. Ook Utrecht en Rotterdam lijken niet op de planning te staan.

Apple Store Amsterdam

Apple Amsterdam werd geopend op 3 maart 2012 en was daarmee de eerste Apple Store in Nederland. Het is met een oppervlak van 2500m2 bovendien de grootste. In 2019 werd deze winkel ingrijpend verbouwd en werd er onder andere een Video Wall met bomen toegevoegd. Meer over Apple Amsterdam lees je op een afzonderlijke pagina.

Apple Store Haarlem

De Apple Store in Haarlem is sinds 7 december 2013 een feit: toen werden Apple Haarlem geopend in de Grote Houtstraat. Ondanks het feit dat dit geen flagship store is kun je er toch terecht voor alle Apple-producten en -diensten, zoals accessoires kopen, workshops volgen en reparaties laten uitvoeren.

Apple Store in Den Haag

De Apple Store in Den Haag is geopend op 9 augustus 2014 en is gevestigd in De Passage in Den Haag. Het gaat hier om een historische locatie, waar veel om te doen is geweest. Zo wilde Apple niet dat de traditionele kerstboom elk jaar in december op het pleintje voor de Apple Store kwam te staan. De kerstboom is in latere jaren soms weer teruggekeerd. Apple Store in Venray?

Regelmatig krijgen we tips van lezers, die ‘ontdekt’ hebben dat er een Apple Store in Venray komt. In het vacatureoverzicht staan namelijk regelmatig dat er personeel voor Venray wordt gezocht. Hoe zit dat? Heeft Apple een leegstaand pand in Limburg ontdekt? Helaas, het gaat slechts om een distributiecentrum van Apple dat wordt beheerd wordt door een externe partij, namelijk Flex Logistics. Hetzelfde bedrijf verzorgt vanuit Venray de distributie voor HP. In juni 2014 werd bekend dat het distributiecentrum in Venray zou gaan sluiten. Sindsdien zijn de geruchten over een aanstaande Apple Store in Venray verstomd. Het zou ook geen logische plaats zijn, aangezien Apple meestal wat grotere steden of bekende winkelcentra kiest.

Apple Store op andere locaties

Zoals hierboven al aangegeven lijkt Apple geen plannen te hebben om nog meer Apple Stores in Nederland te openen. Dat geldt overigens ook voor België, waar na de opening van Apple Brussel geen nieuwe ontwikkelingen meer zijn geweest. Momenteel is Apple vooral druk met het verbouwen van bestaande Apple Stores om ze te voorzien van het nieuwe interieur, dat in 2015 voor het eerst in Brussel te zien was.

iCulture ontdekte al een paar keer de locatie van nieuwe Apple Stores. We baseerden ons daarbij op informatie die bij de gemeente opvraagbaar is, zoals bouwvergunningen. Maar ook op de vacaturepagina van Apple zijn soms aanwijzingen te vinden, zoals we ontdekten bij de Apple Store Den Haag (zie afbeelding hieronder).

Verschil Apple Store en APR (Apple Premium Resellers)

Het is al lange tijd mogelijk om Apple-producten in Nederland te kopen bij Apple Premium Resellers (APR’s) en bij gewone Apple-resellers. Ook vind je Apple-verkooppunten in andere winkels, zoals bij MediaMarkt. Ze zijn door het hele land gevestigd.

Het verschil is dat Apple Stores door Apple zelf worden beheerd, terwijl APR’s zelfstandige bedrijven zijn die tegen betaling en na het volgen van de juiste trainingen een logo aan de gevel mogen hangen. Bij de status van de shop-in-shops zoals je bij Mediamarkt en Fnac ziet is voor consumenten vaak minder duidelijk. Het lijken officiële shops en er worden alleen officiële adviesprijzen gehanteerd, maar een echte Apple Store is het ook niet.

De APR’s moeten aan strenge voorwaarden van Apple voldoen om de producten te mogen verkopen. Voorbeelden van Nederlandse APR’s zijn Amac, iVizi en Xando. De APR’s hanteren dezelfde prijzen als de Apple Store zelf. Is er bij jou geen Apple Store in de buurt en wil je toch hetzelfde niveau van service, dan kun je het beste naar een APR gaan. Wel heeft de Apple Store eerder en meer voorraad bij nieuwe producten, bijvoorbeeld wanneer er een nieuwe iPhone of iPad op de markt is gekomen. De APR’s krijgen vaak wat later deze producten op voorraad.

De Apple Store is dus een officiële winkel van Apple. Je kunt er terecht voor service en reparaties, om de producten te proberen op de demo-tafels en om workshops te volgen. Niet alles is uitgestald in de winkel. Voor sommige producten moet je een medewerker vragen, die het vervolgens uit het magazijn laat halen.
