NEWARK, DE—Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal accident that occurred early this morning on Christiana Road in Newark, resulting in the death of a 41-year-old man from Newark.

The incident happened on May 29, 2024, around 2:35 a.m. A blue 2024 Chevrolet Equinox was traveling southbound on I-95 before taking the exit ramp to Christiana Road westbound. At the base of the ramp, the vehicle failed to navigate the curve, veering off into a grassy area beside the roadway. The vehicle then drove through a guardrail, crossed the westbound lanes of Christiana Road, and finally crashed into a raised concrete barrier.

Following the crash, a small fire broke out in the engine compartment of the Chevrolet. Bystanders who witnessed the accident quickly intervened, pulling the driver from the vehicle and attempting life-saving measures. The driver was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. His identity has not been disclosed pending notification of his family.

The road was closed for about four hours as the Delaware State Police Troop 2 Collision Reconstruction Unit examined the scene and cleared the debris.     The cause of the fire is still under investigation, and repair crews are currently working on site. The community now faces the challenging task of rebuilding and recovery.

    At approximately 4:05 PM, while on duty and riding a marked scooter, an officer was attempting to escort three motorcyclists out of the park.

    During the encounter, one of the motorcyclists struck the officer, causing him to fall to the pavement.

    The assailants fled the scene, and their current whereabouts are unknown. The injured officer was taken to Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital, where he received treatment for minor injuries.

    Police arrested 18-year-old Brent Rosa of the Bronx for the attack earlier this week.

    The suspect, described as a thin-built male with a dark complexion and around 5 feet 10 inches tall, was seen wearing a black hoodie with a multicolor graphic design. The investigation into the shooting continues as authorities seek to identify and apprehend the individual involved.
