I love this CPU, since it's a relatively cheap 8-core CPU with good clock speeds and integrated graphics that don't absolutely suck. However, you can get the Ryzen 5900X for cheaper and get miles more performance for the price.

Pros

  • Relatively good iGPU
  • 8 P-Cores
  • Good clock speeds
  • 128GB maximum memory

Cons

  • No support for anything faster than DDR4-2933
  • Relatively expensive

This CPU is great for overclocking, however I do not see the reason to buy this for both performance and budget reasons. I would rather buy the 11400F CPU as it costs less and has a similar performance compared to the 10700F

Pros

  • It is a powerful CPU

Cons

  • Not better than Gen 11 i5 CPU

FAQs

What is the difference between Intel Xeon and i7? ›

They lack Xeon's support for error-correcting memory (see below), but for advanced users, Core i7 CPUs can be overclocked to temporarily work at higher-than-rated speeds, whereas Xeon models cannot. Intel Xeon CPUs offer similar frequencies and cache sizes as the Core i7 series and higher maximum core counts.

What year is Intel Xeon W 2123? ›

The Intel Xeon W-2123 was a server/workstation processor with 4 cores, launched in August 2017, at an MSRP of $294.

Why is Xeon more expensive than i7? ›

Why Are Xeons More Expensive? Xeon CPUs tend to have a lot more built-in, business-critical technology. For example, they support error-correcting code (ECC) memory, which prevents data corruption and system crashes.

Why is Xeon slower than i7? ›

Xeon CPUs are different to Core CPUs. They're the workhorse of Intel, meant for servers and workstations. So their clockspeed is lower usually because they don't need a high clockspeed. But they often have more cores instead, to do their work parallel.

What are the disadvantages of Xeon processor? ›

Some shortcomings that make Xeon processors unsuitable for most consumer-grade desktop PCs include lower clock rates at the same price point (since servers run more tasks in parallel than desktops, core counts are more important than clock rates), and, usually, the lack of an integrated graphics processing unit (GPU).

What is Intel Xeon best for? ›

Xeon processors are ideal for servers and workstations as they have a little bit more processing capability. Core processors are ideal for laptops, desktops and particularly for gaming PCs.

What is Intel Xeon W? ›

Xeon W is a brand of x86 processors designed, manufactured, and marketed by Intel, targeted at the workstation market. The brand has been used for processors under several architectures: Intel Skylake workstation processors (first released 2017) Intel Cascade Lake workstation processors (first released 2019)

Is Intel Xeon W better than i9? ›

Both the Xeon and Core i9 processors have their pros and cons. The Xeon is better if you need a stable and reliable processor for business use. However, if you need more power for gaming or intensive tasks, then the Core i9 is the better choice.

Is it worth paying extra for i7 processor? ›

The i7 CPU is better for more specialized, resource-intensive, performance-oriented apps and higher-end gaming. The i7 is also better for running lots of different tasks simultaneously. To choose the best CPU for you, think about your computing habits.

Why is Xeon not good for gaming? ›

Xeon CPUs often feature lower base and boost clock speeds compared to consumer-oriented CPUs. This can lead to slightly reduced single-threaded performance, crucial for gaming tasks that rely on fast instruction execution.

Why is Intel Xeon Gold so expensive? ›

Intel Xeon processors are much more expensive because they often include more cores, feature advanced technologies, and are highly reliable for mission-critical applications. That is why Intel Xeon processors are aimed mainly at enterprises and industrial applications that find it worth investing in high-end CPUs.

Should I get Xeon or i7? ›

If you are planning on using your system for gaming, home or business use, the i7 will be the better option for you. However, if you are looking for a high-powered system to run video rendering or 3D software, you may want to look into getting a Xeon.

Why Xeon over i7? ›

Longevity (under heavy load) – Xeon processors are qualified to handle heavier, more intensive loads day in and day out. For the serious workstation user, this can translate to better longevity over i7 counterparts.

Did Intel discontinue Xeon? ›

The product discontinuation applies to both tray and boxed Cascade Lake Xeon processors. Intel listed 68 Cascade Lake products in its PCN (Product Change Notification) document. The chipmaker's customers have until April 26, 2024, to submit the last orders to their local Intel representative.

Is Intel Xeon high-end? ›

Breakthrough Compute Architecture

Intel Xeon W-3400 and Intel Xeon W-2400 processors represent an architectural turning point in power and scalability for professional high-end compute needs.

Which is better Xeon or Core i5? ›

Users with lesser cache, found in Intel Core i3 and i5 chips, should expect slower performance. For example, a workstation based on the 3.3GHz Intel Xeon E3-1245 with an 8M cache outperforms a workstation based on the 3.3GHz Intel Core i3-2120 with 3m cache by up to 1.9 times!

Is Xeon better for gaming? ›

While capable of handling gaming, Xeon processors are not optimized for gaming performance. They are less cost-effective for gaming than gaming-oriented CPUs like Intel Core i9 or AMD Ryzen. Gamers are better off using consumer-grade CPUs that provide better gaming performance at a lower cost.

Is Intel i9 better than Xeon? ›

The Core i9 processors are incredibly powerful and are perfect for gaming and intensive tasks. They offer more cores and threads than the Xeon processors and higher clock speeds. They also have better-integrated graphics than the Xeon processors, making them a good choice for businesses and consumers.
