IVE discusses new EP 'IVE SWITCH' in an interview: "We're going to show more of IVE's growth and colors" (2024)

IVE has established themselves as an irreplaceable "representative group of the fourth generation," and has become a "million seller" for three consecutive albums, including the third single 'After LIKE,' the first full-length album 'I've IVE' released last year, and the first mini-album 'I'VE MINE.'

How do you feel about making a comeback with your second mini-album 'IVE SWITCH' after six months?

Ahn Yujin

:The album 'IVE SWITCH,' which we prepared while communicating with fans on the world tour stage, finally came outin the world. As we are experiencing various stages, we want to show our more mature and developed side on this album. So,we prepared hard, so please give us a lot of attention and love!

: I think this album is an album that we tried to change a lot to show a lot of different sides. We hope that you will enjoy our stage with a different charm.

: We're coming back with 'IVE SWITCH' after 6 months since our last album, and we're excited and looking forward to meeting our fans often with various contents through this activity.

: I think I'm looking forward to this activity even more because I think we'll be able to show another colorful side of IVE through 'IVE SWITCH.' We've prepared a lot of styling and performances, so please look forward to it.

: While preparing for this album, we tried a hairstyle without bangs, and I think it's the first album where I personally tried a lot of things that I haven't done since my debut, so I was most curious about how the fans would see it while preparing. Please check out our colorful charms that we will show on stage!

: After the content 'IVE SWITCH'was released, fans said a lot of good things about it, so we felt more confident and energized even before we started our activities. We will repay them with a great stage as they are expecting a lot.

How would you describe 'IVE SWITCH,' which has attracted a lot of buzz before its release due to its unpredictable concept?

Jang Wonyoung

: This is an album where we tried a lot of new things to show a more expanded "another me" based on the assertive and dignified persona that IVE has shown in the past. The double title track “HEYA” will have a strong impact with its narrative lyrics and powerful hip-hop genre, while “Accendio” will fill the stage with a mysterious atmosphere like casting a spell. In addition to the double title track, all of the songs on the album are full of IVE's various charms, so please listen to them.

Liz

: We're going to show more of IVE's growth through this album, and every time we prepare for an album, we think, “How can we show more of IVE's colors?” and I'm very happy that the answer to that question is captured in 'IVE SWITCH.' Just as the word switch means to switch, I will show you a different side of IVE, but just as the mood changes when the switch is turned off and on, I will show you different charms through the double title track.

You've been trying out a lot of new things, and it's clear from the teaser content that you've shown off a lot of different sides of yourself. How do you feel about trying out different looks and what do you hope to show through this album?

: I tried the choppy bangs style this time and changed my look into various styles, and I was so happy that the fans said that it looked good on me. I hope that they will look forward to it because there is still more of IVE's charm that will be shown through this album. I'm going to show a lot of different looks so that you can think, "IVE had this kind of side too."

Liz

: This is the first time I've ever shown myself without bangs, and I think I was nervous right up until the moment before the shoot because I felt awkward and worried about whether it would come out well. I was also curious about the fans' reactions after it was released, but luckily they said it was beautiful, so I think it gave me the courage to take on various challenges. As you can see from the concept, I tried to do something different in terms of style for this album, so please look forward to it.

What is the story that IVE wants to tell in this album?

Gaeul

: If I talked about "me" through various perspectives through my previous albums, this album will bring out "another me" and tell a new story. I will tell the story of IVE, which is expanded from the existing me who has a subjective attitude towards love, such as telling a story related to the sun in IVE's own way, or how I feel in the face of love, or how I transformed through a spell.

The members' musical growth is also expected, with member Wonyoung participating in the song “Blue Heart” as a solo lyricist. How did you feel about participating in the lyrics once again?

Jang Wonyoung

: As the album is about a newly defined IVE, I focused on capturing the colors of a more mature IVE in the lyrics of the song “Blue Heart” in line with that concept. I think that writing lyrics that show a strong attitude that is different from the songs I've participated in before gave me an opportunity to think about the other side of myself. Thanks to the fans who have been able to relate to my lyrics and like them, I was able to participate in the album as another great opportunity. I'm very grateful and will continue to strive to show my improved side.

How does it feel to be experiencing a variety of global stages, starting with the Kia Forum in Los Angeles in March and ending with the Prudential Center in Newark, where you held a sold-out world tour in six cities in the U.S. for the first time since your debut, and are scheduled to perform in Europe and South America in June, attend Lollapalooza Chicago in August, and hold an encore performance at the Tokyo Dome in September?

Ahn Yujin

: We're learning a lot of things on our world tour. I think I'm learning more about the joy of communicating on stage as I see fans dancing to our songs and singing along to our songs in unison, so every stage is very important to me and has left me with happy memories. I would love to have another encore performance in Korea, where we started our world tour, to communicate more with our fans. I think we've been able to stand on dream stages like Lollapalooza Chicago and Tokyo Dome because of the fans who have loved us, so we're really grateful! And we'll do our best every moment to make the remaining performances even better.

: I remember feeling a bit overwhelmed when I heard that we were confirmed for an encore performance at Tokyo Dome in Japan. I still can't believe that I'll be able to stand on the stage of my dreams as an IVE member after watching my seniors perform. I'm so grateful to our fans. I'm looking forward to performing in Europe, South America, and Lollapalooza Chicago, where I'll be performing solo for the first time, and I'll make good memories for our fans.

Gaeul: I was really touched by the fans who filled the venues, sang along with IVE's songs, and enjoyed the stage. Even though it was my first world tour since my debut, I am very grateful to them. The excitement I felt on stage during this performance is something I'll never forget, and I'm excited to meet with fans at future concerts. If I get the chance, I would love to do one more encore performance in Korea.
