Lucifer M Being a huge fan of H.P. Lovecraft I was actually pretty excited for this series and it’s vision. Blending a period drama that portrays a very harsh, volatile, disturbing and horrifying era for African Americans with supernatural themes and characters that incorporate lovecraftian monsters is just pure genius. The story is engaging, the SFX and score are top notch and the actors are all just incredible in all of the roles they play. Really mad and disappointed there won’t be a second season. This series had so much potential to continue. I will warn that each episode feels like a feature film alone, and the emotional load therein due to the subject matter is also very heavy. While the happy, funny, & inspiring moments are plentiful, I would still advise taking each episode a day at a time at minimum, due to these two reasons, despite the intense temptation to binge. For those just seeing the piece for the first time after reading this, this wash of emotion may feel even more intense due to the untimely passing of actor Michael K. Williams.I'm still lost as to how the dropping of the stone in the sheriff's office drawer worked, & whether the person captive in his closet was the police lieutenant's old body or just someone else being used to demonstrate the inhumane ethic of the cops of that era, or if he witnessed the murder of Christina's ex. I also wonder what the monsters in the woods symbolize, aside from the result of conquering one's fears.
