How long does it take to get dividend payment?
The record date: The date that determines all shareholders of record who are entitled to the dividend payment. This date usually occurs two days after the ex-date. The payment date: This is the day dividend payments are issued to shareholders and is usually about one month after the record date.
The payment date can range from just a few days to more than a month after the board of directors declares a dividend is coming. The record date is the date you must own shares on or before in order to be entitled to the dividend.
The ex-dividend date is the first day the stock trades without its dividend, thus ex-dividend. If you want to get the dividend payment, you need to own the stock by this day. That means you have to buy before the end of the day before the ex-dividend date to get the next dividend. In other words, it's the cut-off date.
The record date is the date by which investors must be on the company's books in order to receive a dividend. Officially set by the board of directors, it's usually one day after the ex-dividend date. Any trades made on this date are not eligible for dividends until the next distribution.
The dividend payment date is generally 30–45 days after the record date. You can find the details of the Ex date/Record date on the NSE website under the 'Corporate Disclosures' tab and the BSE website under the 'Corp Actions' tab.
Step #1: First, a company declares they are paying a dividend. This is the dividend declaration date. Step #2: Then, a company decides which shareholders will receive a dividend. Shareholders who own shares before the ex-dividend date will receive the next dividend payment.
Existing shareholders receive the declaration information directly from the company, usually by a notice in the mail. Investing information websites regularly publish upcoming ex-dividend dates, along with the amount of the dividend.
The 45 day rule (sometimes called dividend stripping) requires shareholders to have held the shares 'at risk' for at least 45 days (plus the purchase day and sale day) in order to be eligible to claim franking credits in their tax returns.
It could be due to administrative issues or technical glitches. Patience is important, but further action should be taken if the delay persists. Administrative Errors: Occasionally, administrative errors can occur, resulting in the dividend not being credited to your bank account.
Other drawbacks of dividend investing are potential extra tax burdens, especially for investors who live off the income. 3 Once a company starts paying a dividend, investors become accustomed to it and expect it to grow. If that doesn't happen or it is cut, the share price will likely fall.

For most people, it is not rational to time delay their share sale to capture a dividend. There are some minor tax consideration, but these will not be material for most people with relatively small shareholdings. Bottom line – if you want to sell your shares, sell them!

What Is a Good Dividend Yield? Yields from 2% to 6% are generally considered to be a good dividend yield, but there are plenty of factors to consider when deciding if a stock's yield makes it a good investment. Your own investment goals should also play a big role in deciding what a good dividend yield is for you.
Section 123(1) of the Act inter-alia states that “no dividend shall be declared or paid by a company for any financial year except out of the profits of the company for that year or out of the profits of the company for any previous financial years”.
Where to Find Dividend Payout Ratio Numbers. The figures for net income, EPS, and diluted EPS are all found at the bottom of a company's income statement. For the amount of dividends paid, look at the company's dividend announcement or its balance sheet, which shows outstanding shares and retained earnings.
Basically, an investor or trader purchases shares of the stock before the ex-dividend date and sells the shares on the ex-dividend date or any time thereafter. If the share price does fall after the dividend announcement, the investor may wait until the price bounces back to its original value.
If a stockholder sells their shares before the ex-dividend date, also known as the ex-date, they will not receive a dividend from the company.
With a 10% yield and monthly payout schedule, you can get to $500 a month with only $60,000 invested. That is, $6,000 per year paid on a monthly basis. Unfortunately, most stocks don't have yields anywhere near 10%. Many do have high enough yields to get you to $500 a month with diligent savings, but don't pay monthly.
How to make 5k a month in dividends?
Invest in Dividend Stocks
The payments are considered passive income since you can collect the dividends whether you trade the stock actively or not. To generate $5,000 per month in dividends, you would need a portfolio value of approximately $1 million invested in stocks with an average dividend yield of 5%.

A yield trap is a stock that presently pays a very attractive dividend yield but is likely to have to cut its dividend soon. Beginning investors often make the mistake of choosing stocks simply based on high dividend yields, but often these are yield traps at high risk for cutting the dividend.
