Centerpoint power delivery, Talking to someone I know that works as a linemen, We haven't seen the worse yet. Only going to get much worse. Be prepared for long term power outages, Mainly when we get hit with a major hurricane, even with mutual aid from other power companies. Weeks maybe months , No power.

Saved for a whole house generator! Hopefully we can get it installed in a timely manner!

@Lulu45 : Us too.

Weeks maybe months , No power.

@Texasdad : That's a bit of a stretch. 🙄

@peppermintstick :
My guess would be wide spread destruction. The lineman can only work on one neighborhood at a time. Plus there will be a shortage of some parts. What if 2-3 big storms hit the same general area in one month? I remember about 10-12 years ago when it kept hitting the Lake Charles area. It could get ugly or hopefully miss us??

What if

@Jonn :

Be prepared now (not later) for the worse but why play the "What if" game? Whatever happens is going to happen.

I seem to remember there were some areas to the North of us (New Caney? Cleveland?) that were without power for more than a month after IKE. So many trees and remote areas. I could be wrong but I seem to remember that.

I can say that they haven't been clearing the right of way along the power lines in the green belts- they did it right after Ike and as of last year when we moved they hadn't come back through. As of last year there was a big rotten tree- half of it had fallen away from the lines but the rest was still up- on the greenbelt on Kingwood Dr and the Baptist church in Sand Creek.
I know if I was still there we'd have a whole house generator by now!

@Texasdad : If this is the case....they should have been working on this years ago. 4th largest city in the nation should not be without power for months. This is 3rd world ****. Where is Mayor Whitmire?

Any recommendations for whole house generators? Good deal? Brand?

@peppermintstick : Many reasons especially areas like Kingwood, equipment some from the 90s. They recently replaced a transformer dated 1990 and covered in vines and brush that was only accessible tearing down two fences as the yard it was in was so overgrown with trees and brush that they had to go to the street behind and take down their fences that were new. He said many bavkyards in Kingwood are a mess, high grass, dead trees and unmaintained.
Also overgrowth of trees around power lines especailly the greenbelts. Last year drought has caused many dead branches that fall on the lines.

@Blazer92 : We have a Generac. Generator Super Center will likely have a long wait for installation. At the time, for us, it was 4-6 months due to high demand and lack of staff to fulfill all of the orders. We decided to go with a local installer who had the same access and capabilities as GSC, just not the flashy name. We waited a few weeks for them to get started.

@Texasdad :
They should think about getting trees along the greenbelts trimmed.
