At Island Power we are serious about 2 things, using hybrid systems to minimize fossil fuel usage in generation and up time on the service we provide. Up time refers to the reliability of our generation services. "The Greater Houston region's experience with severe weather events emphasizes the importance of increasing our electric system's resiliency.", says Lynnae Wilson, CenterPoint Energy's Senior Vice President, Electric Business.On Thursday, May 16th, winds nearing 85 miles an hour caused widespread and significant damage across Houston, TX. "The storm system caused extensive damage to the company's transmission and distribution electric systems. Wind gusts between 65-85 mph and sustained winds equivalent to a tropical storm, or a Category 1 Hurricane, were seen downtown and eastward toward northern Galveston Bay."Storm events are continuously increasing in both severity and frequency. Scenarios, like the one facing Houston this week, are becoming more prevalent. Luckily, CenterPoint Energy is doing everything they can to restore power to the 922,000 customers affected.
